    2. We're reading a lot of Grace Lin around here these days!! I love this for ages 1-5. The illustrations are dynamic and fun.

    3. The whole family gets involved in the kite building process. A nice introduction to Grace Lin's work for younger readers.

    4. This was a very easy read that you could keep in a kindergarten classroom. It was a simple story and it had great illustrations. I like how it not only showed the culture of kite flying in China, but the whole family was included. I also like that it's based of the author's childhood because she puts a note to her father in the beginning.

    5. A Chinese family is going step by step making a kite. What kind of kite are they making? Love this was intergenerational and that everyone was involved in different parts. simple. toddler and up. Would work well for Chinese new year as they make a dragon which the kids loved!

    6. A story about making a kite together with the whole family, and of course flying kites together too. This one was requested for multiple rereadings.

    7. It’s a windy day, perfect for flying kites! From their trip to the art store to buy supplies to flying the colorful dragon kite, this story shows the process of making a kite as narrated by a young girl. Each of her family members, Ba-Ba (father), Ma-Ma (mother), and her two sisters, Mei-Mei and Jie-Jie, completes a different portion of the kite, from gluing the sticks to the paper to painting on a laughing mouth. Finally, the family takes their beautiful kite out to the hill.“Look up! Our d [...]

    8. Grace Lin's striking, colorful paintings give movement and rhythm to "Kite Flying". Richly detailed patterns on clothing give a feel of the orient, while the flow and juxtaposition of such things as kite ribbons or the family are stylistically more contemporary. "Kite Flying" shows a family making a dragon kite from scratch. Their fun collaboration is sure to inspire kids to ask their own parents to do the same.As in many of Lin's books, the afterword gives more background to the subject matter. [...]

    9. Many people I know go to a general store, or if lucky a kite store to buy a kite, but this book shows the steps that one family takes to create their own kite. It will take a little time, but the bonus is that it’s creative, and Grace Lin has also shared many kinds of possibilities of the kind of kites one can make. To see those, you can look on the back pages to find quite a few. There is also good back matter that shares about the history and tradition of kite-flying in China and elsewhere. [...]

    10. A Chinese family works together to build a traditional kite. Simple text makes this a suitable read aloud title and an author's note following the story provides some extra information about the history of kites. What I most loved about this book were the inside front and back covers. On the inside front cover, all of the materials someone might use to construct a kite were pictured. On the inside back cover, a variety of kites were displayed with words that pointed to the symbology of each desig [...]

    11. A family buys supplies for kite-making at the craft store, builds the kite, and lets it fly. The text is very simple and the illustrations are bright and colorful. The family featured is Asian-American. The back of the book has several lengthy paragraphs about the history of kites, as well as drawings of kites symbolizing different traits. Good story for a pre-school storytime, and the extra information at the back makes it appropriate for older children as well.

    12. Kite Flying by Grace Lin is a nice family story who comes together to build and fly kits. The story is easy to follow and read for preschool storytime. The illustrations are colorful. The kids and myself were intrigued with the examples of kites located in the back but we did not understand the meaning of it. We thought it was very interesting though.

    13. This book shows children how to enjoy spending time with family, and always put them first. Kite Flying is a wonderful book for children. The reason is because children are able to see that there are other cultures, people, races, and religion in the world.

    14. A short, simple book about a family who builds a kite together. Beautiful pictures, and information about kites in the back of the book. It was pretty simple, even for preschoolers, but this made it a great book to read as they finished their snack.

    15. Chinese story about family bonding time when flying kites Each member has a different responsibility when making the kite. Cute story!
