    1. Veronica Scott has a gift for engaging characters. In the galaxy of the sectors, her heroes are resourceful, honorable, and super sexy. Her heroines determined, honorable, and courageous. Mike and Shalira are no exceptions. Their adventures and romance are fast-paced, exciting, and hard to put down. I'm also a sucker for good conquers evil stories, victory against all odds -- all of which Mission to Mahjundar delivers. The only off note for me is one that most readers will totally love. 2. More like 3.5 stars!First of all, I have to state that I won this book in a giveaway. Although I did "really like" this story, I'm still giving it only 3 stars, because on a comparative scale with all the other books I awarded 3/4/5 3 stars seems fairer to me than 4.This story begins in medias res with the hero rescuing and falling in love with the heroine. It's love at first sight and in my opinion they go at it quite quickly, too quickly but then it's a romance novel, so I should have known. W [...]

    3. I've really been enjoying the Sectors series. The heroes are intelligent, smart, and very good at their jobs. They aren't alphas, but they are natural leaders. The heroines are strong-willed and intelligent, thrust into circumstances beyond their control and doing the best they can.In this book, two men who are burnt out on their Sectors military service have been pressed into one last mission--to retrieve whatever has survived a ship going down on a technologically closed planet. People on the [...]

    4. The author, Veronica Scott, gave me a copy of this novel in exchange for my review.Scott wastes no time once the novel begins. We meet Princess Shalira’s stepmother. When Mike meets her we see through his eyes an overdone and haughty woman convinced of her absolute control. Also through his eyes we see the Princess unsure and clinging to her horse in a seeming metaphor to her approach for life. Her control is limited and she clings to whatever she can. They meet in an impossibly dangerous mome [...]

    5. Right now I am only 50% through this book and already we have intrigue, betrayal, loyalty, love and magic. What more can you ask for?I am now 80% done - I'm going to take a break because if this was a movie I'd be sitting on the edge of my seat. Shalira and Mike along with Johnny, Saium and Everett were captured and turned over to people who are much like the ancient Aztec are reputed to have been - even down to the human sacrifices by cutting out the beating heart. They have escaped their priso [...]

    6. Major Mike Varone and his cousin, Johnny, have been pulled out of retirement for one more mission to Mahjundar. A ship has gone down in the mountains and the crew needs rescue. Seems simple enough but simple doesn’t make a very compelling read, does it? Their first day planetside adds several complications. The crash course in language and culture doesn’t cover the current political climate or help them interpret the nervous twitches of their guide. The bomb in a public plaza is a more obvio [...]

    7. Before I started this book I had read two short stories by this author that I enjoyed and I was eager to give one of her full length works a try. I picked this book up when it was discounted and as I was in a sci-fi mood I decided to starts this one. Sadly I have to say this one missed the mark for me. The story didn't quite work for me. This is mostly because of me having wrong expectations about this book and I was unable to really care about the characters or get caught up in the story.Missio [...]

    8. The third book in Veronica Scott's A Sector SF Romance. Special Forces officer, Mike Varone, is sent to Mahjundar to locate a crashed ship and any possible survivors but when he saves the Princess Shalira from death his journey changes. He is ordered to escort the princess to her future husband. But there are those who wish the princess' death. Will Mike succeed in keeping her alive? In a society where perfection is desired, Shalira's blindness makes her undesirable. Shalira is now past her prime [...]

    9. This was a fabulous sci-fi romance story filled with love, adventure, and suspense. Just when I believed the hero and heroine were about to get out of a bad situation, something else happened to put their lives in jeopardy. I never knew what would happen next. I really liked how even though the heroine had a disability, she wasn't helpless and even helped to save trained military men in certain situations. The narrator did a wonderful job telling this story, and I plan to read and listen to more [...]

    10. Any one of the Sectors series is a fine read, with both male and female MCs with agency and looks. The romances have sufficient tension. Plotting is ok for what is an escapist romp. These are chaste romances, so beware if you want more, be it panty melting or penis twitching. While I am willing to give any of the four Sectors books I've read 4 stars, they all have very similar plots. Reading more than one without a considerable break is way to saccharine for me.

    11. 3.5 stars.I didn't like this one as much as the previous 2 installments. It's still pretty action-packed but I think it's the weird god-stuff that didn't quite appeal to me.

    12. 3.2 ; 3.7 = should be a half star! Several issues where I liked X, but Y was iffy.Another entertaining Sectors SFR, though there's a mystical fantasy element, as well as interplanetary government background and future tech eventually in play. Ms. Scott has that in at least a couple other titles too. I like both genres, but sometimes the mix catches me off guard, such as when prayers or rites have immediate, unquestionable results.I liked almost all the protagonists, who had strengths and weakne [...]

    13. This story is only tangentially associated with the Sectors series. Although billed as scifi, there were several mystical aspects that blurred the line with fantasy. The adventure and challenges were well written, and the characters were likable, if somewhat predictable.

    14. 2 reviewsReviewer: CTherrienIf you are looking for a fast paced page turner that will keep you guessing, then this is the book for you. Just when you think you know what is going on another twist is presented.Mike and Johnny are Sector special forces called upon to complete one last mission before they can officially retire. Although they are briefed on the planet they are about to encounter nothing prepares them for this anything but ordinary mission.Mike finds that the first thing he must do i [...]

    15. I found this book through the Science Fiction Romance (SFR) Brigades' Portal 1 taster and have not read any of the other of the Sectors SF Romance series. The story caught my interest during the first chapter taster because the main character (heroine) is blind.I hesitate to categorize this book as science fiction; while the hero comes from another planet and has lots of cool science military tools, the woman's world is more magical and mysterious. The story reads much more fantasy than science [...]

    16. The Princess And The MarineMike and his cousin Johnny are stationed on Manjundar. Their mission is to retrieve their fellow marines that crashed on the planet. It should have been a simple assignment but it turns to an adventure of a lifetime.During an explosion in the market place Mike meets Shalira, the princess of Manjundar.Blind since she was a child Shalira has been treated like as inconvenience. On Manjundar if a person has a handicap they are considered imperfect. Shalira is living on bor [...]

    17. * I received a copy of this book as part of First Reads *This book has one of the most unique plots of anything I've ever read. It combines issues which were common in the past, as well as in some places to this day, such as the prejudices associated with people with disabilities and arranged marriage, with the science fiction world of the various planets. These genres are blended brilliantly and I found this very interesting. There was suspense throughout that keeps you reading, very tense in [...]

    18. Stayed up late to finish this one. I'm a sucker for blind characters, so I've been eyeing this science fiction romance between a blind princess and a Special Forces operative for a while. (And don't be turned off by the princess part, Shalira is NOT spoiled. Her culture believes deformities and imperfections mean weakness, and she's been struggling to survive in a poisonous imperial court.) Cool world-building and lots of action, especially in the second half of the novel. I was a little surpris [...]

    19. At first I was a bit skeptical about this type of book- Science fiction and romance- not what I normally read. However, there were only a couple of scenes that contain portions of romance; mostly it was sci-fi and action/ adventure. A lot of fighting against mystic enemies and gods/ goddess'.Even though it looks like a small book, about 250 words, there is so much detail that it takes a while to read. The characters were fresh and unique and very different from characters in other books that I h [...]

    20. I first became aware of this book through Weekend Writing Warriors (wewriwa), a Sunday excerpt blog hop. The excerpts don’t do this book justice! Author Veronica Scott paints such a vivid, rich picture of the make-believe world of Mahundar, the reader is instantly drawn in. You’re not reading a book, you’re marching along, side-by-side with the characters as they encounter many dangers. The characters are as believable as the world. The hero and heroine are strong but vulnerable, imperfect [...]

    21. I had high hopes for this one but they petered out at about the 1/2 way mark. I skimmed the rest. The characters were not engaging at all and for this was supposed to be sci-fi it read read more like a military contemporary.

    22. While this story is badged as sci-fi romance I think it is probably more accurate to say it is fantasy, romance with a bit of sci-fi thrown in. I enjoyed the story but felt the romance was wrapped up a bit too quickly. I also wasn't fond of the change that happened.

    23. Another riveting adventure in an excellent series. The society was off-putting, but I did like the main characters quite a lot.

    24. Mission to MahjunderVeronica creates characters and situations that you feel like it could be real. I truly enjoy the depth of her characters.
