    1. A Necessary ReadI just want to thrust this book into all the young women I know. I wish I had this when I first left home and started having "grown up" relationships.

    2. I was lucky enough to read an advance-advance version of this book. It is hilarious and incisive. Liza Monroy is a brilliant cartographer of the human heart, with a great sense of scene, character and dialogue (and a great sense of making these difficult things look easy.) And her mother, AKA The Profiler, is a character for the ages.

    3. Liza has written an unguarded, confessional, heart-wrenching, and, at times, a laugh-out-loud-funny meditation on the pursuit of love-all with her most trusted and beloved confidant--her mother, a profiler for the U.S. state department. A skilled storyteller, Monroy never veers to [...]

    4. I have been really into the idea of personal essays and memoirs lately, and I was so pleased to stumble upon this in the New Books section at the library. I loved this relationship - it felt honest and real and loving but also admittedly challenging and not always healthy. Having commentary from "The Profiler" was fun too.

    5. "Seeing As Your Shoes Are Soon to be on Fire" is a collection of essays by Liza Monroy. These essays focus on Monroy's trials and tribulations in love. A central person in these essays is Monroy's mother "The Profiler", who works as a profiler for the US State Department reviewing people applying for visas to travel to the US. Monroy's mom puts her profiling skills to work assessing her daughter's suitors. I loved these essays. They were open & honest with many laugh out loud moments. The es [...]
