    1. This was my favorite of the series - both hero and heroine are damaged goods, facing tough odds to just live their lives. They don't believe in themselves much, or believe they're worth anything, but find in each other a teammate. Of all of the stories, the romance is probably the most believable. They feel more real to me, and their relationship more real. The sexual tension completely sizzles in this one. I also think this story achieves the best balance between the plot, the back stories, the [...]

    2. 3.5 stars, rounded up because I can't resist a dark & wounded hero. I love Westerns, particularly post-civil war, late 1800s set ones as an entire generation tried to rebuild itself. Beth Williamson's "Devils" series follows one such group of friends, all veterans, all scarred in various ways as they try to rebuild their lives. I got into this series on the recommendation of the awesome Sasha White, whose taste usually matches mine. I picked this one to purchase because I liked the idea of a [...]

    3. Lee Blackwood has felt like a half a man since he’s lost an arm in the Civil War. His feelings of inadequacy increase when the woman he asked to marry him turned him down. As a result of the rejection that makes him feel like less than a man, he buries himself into his accounting work and his misery. When Genevieve Blanchard comes into town looking for help in bringing in her crop, the attraction between she and Lee ignites, but neither feel worthy of the other. When they’re pushed together [...]

    4. OK, so everything that I felt would have improved the books continued onto this one AND Lee was one PAIN IN MY ASS! I mean seriously people?!?!? Could he BE more whine about his arm?! You're alive. It was war. Move ON!OK, that being said gotta love little Sophie she was quite the cutie pie with her sassy mouth! lol I really liked the Devils coming together to save the day in the end. Seems to be a recurring theme in the books but yet again, SOOOOOO much not left explained properly. I mean let' [...]

    5. I read the Devils on Horseback in preparation for book club. Western-historical-erotica is not typically my genre which affected the rating. Fans of the genre will enjoy these books. I thought they were well written with complex men and strong women. I thought the depiction of the post-civil war life of former confederate soldiers both compelling and heart breaking.

    6. For some reason, I didn't connect as much with Lee's angst as I did with the other Devils. At least, not his childhood angst. Once the relationship was established between Genny and Lee, I was able to settle into the book and enjoy it more.

    7. Really a 2.5 again. If it had ended around the 92nd page it would have been a 4 for me. But I knew something else was coming and there was more story, I just got tired of it. This book is shorter and the relationship happens even more quickly than earlier ones (or so I remember).

    8. Lee.e hothead of the Devils on Horseback. If there's going to be trouble, Lee will be around to help with it. But then he meets Sophie and things really heat up!

    9. Lee was filled treachery, danger within the town of Tanger,TX but between two people there is wicked hot passion. It was an enjoyable adventure.
