    1. To prepare for a Dutch production of the play, I decided to read The Maids' script beforehand. And I wish I didn't, for I am even more confused right now than I was before. The Maids certainly is a most cruel play, even more so because one never quite knows when the characters are leaving their created 'roles' and are being themselves or not.
